Position Summary

The Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Technician supports the daily operations of the DME program and collaborates with Medical Assistants in delivering patient care. While the DME Technician has a primary work location, travel to other clinic sites may be required as needed.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The key duties and responsibilities of the DME Technician include, but are not limited to:

  • Brace fitting and application
  • Inventory and product management, including monthly inventory counts
  • Clinical coordination
  • Prior authorization processing
  • Daily DME reporting support
  • Casting and splinting assistance
  • Insurance and billing coordination
  • Documentation and regulatory compliance
  • Patient communication and customer service
  • Contributing to the development and growth of the expanding DME program
  • Adhering to OSHA safety standards and HIPAA regulations
  • Maintaining compliance with all company policies and procedures
  • Assisting Medical Assistants with tasks including patient rooming, direct patient care, phone calls, faxing, and equipment maintenance, as applicable
  • Assisting with medical supply ordering as needed
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Education/Experience

  • Current Medical Assistant registration or certification in Washington State required (may be obtained upon hire)
  • NATA-BOC Certified with a current WA State License strongly preferred
  • 1-3 years of experience using DME in a clinical setting strongly preferred; recent ATC graduates welcome
  • Valid driver’s license

The following competencies will be developed through structured on-the-job training. Employees are expected to demonstrate proficiency in each area following the completion of their training period:

  • Accurately measuring functional braces, both custom and off-the-shelf (OTS)
  • Presenting bracing options to physicians and guiding patients through the selection and fitting process
  • Correctly fitting off-the-shelf bracing products
  • Maintaining current knowledge of bracing and DME products, technologies, and best practices
  • Applying and modifying braces and DME products to meet individual patient needs

Work Environment/Physical Demands

This role regularly requires:

  • Prolonged periods of standing
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Squatting and kneeling
  • Assembling DME items
  • Sitting at a computer workstation
