SUMMARY:

The Program Manager for the Inclusive Graduate Education Network (IGEN) Mathematics Initiative (IGEN-Math) works under the supervision of the Director of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion and works closely with internal and external stakeholders, including IGEN Alliance partner organizations and the IGEN-Math Advisory Group, to manage this national capacity building initiative to engage the mathematics community in the development of a framework for a centralized hub of bridge programs in mathematics intended to improve equity and inclusion in mathematics graduate education. The Program Manager will support the work of the IGEN-Math team and will coordinate, implement, maintain, and promote the programmatic activities of the IGEN-Math capacity building initiative. This is a grant funded position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manage the efficient operation of the national IGEN-Math Initiative.
  • Coordinate in-person and virtual IGEN-Math community engagement activities, meetings, and events.
  • Assist the Director and IGEN-Math Team with work related to the IGEN-Math Initiative.
  • Develop, grow, and leverage relationships with stakeholders in and ancillary with the mathematics community, including leaders of graduate programs, bridge programs, professional organizations, and mathematics institutes.
  • Develop, coordinate, and execute communications strategies for the IGEN-Math Initiative including communications with constituents, webpages, news items, social media, Notices articles and advertising, etc.
  • Represent and conduct activities on behalf of the IGEN-Math Team at conferences, workshops, site visits and assessments, IGEN-Alliance meetings, and IGEN-Math convenings, as well as additional travel to appropriate meetings and events as assigned.
  • Develop and implement impactful IGEN-Math meeting agendas and programs for initiative activities to ensure that the established project goals are met.
  • Prepare and work with Director to complete agenda items for AMS staff and governance meetings.
  • Manage and draft internal and external reports including summaries of engagement activities and webpage content.
  • Write and edit articles, brochures, project reports, proposals, and web-based materials.
  • Build and maintain appropriate IGEN-Math initiative databases or other software tools, web pages, and digital file structures needed for increased efficiency and accuracy, in cooperation in cooperation with AMS staff.
  • Contribute substantially to writing funding proposals, when appropriate.
  • Ensure efficient project scheduling, cross-training, and documentation.
  • Manage and track project budgets and approve invoices, as needed.
  • Manage grant subaward and contracts including monitoring progress, reviewing outcomes, and ensuring that funder requirements are met.
  • Develop and implement assessments and evaluations to inform project activities.
  • Make recommendations to inform activities and make improvements based on evaluation and data analysis.
  • Participate in AMS strategic planning initiatives, where appropriate.
  • Design new program activities with supervision, where appropriate.
  • Perform other or similar related duties as requested or assigned.

INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Work with and maintain good relationships with IGEN-Math stakeholders, the broader mathematics community, and AMS officers, committees, volunteers, and members.
  • Interact with the AMS Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, Meetings and Conferences Department, Membership Department, Information Technology Department, Information Services Department, Graphic Arts Department, Communications Department, and other AMS staff to advance the IGEN-Math initiative activities including messaging, marketing, strategies and planning.
  • Strategize with the IGEN-Math Team to plan and determine speakers for initiative activities, update webpage content, and report on engagement activities to project constituencies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Earned graduate degree in one of the mathematical sciences or related disciplines.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of previous related experience with program management, nonprofit management, or academic programs in higher education is necessary.
  • Experience writing grant proposals and managing grant-supported projects.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. Ability to plan and organize meetings, events, and exhibits. Prior experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the mathematics community is useful.
  • Must be able to interact professionally and effectively with a wide array of constituencies.
  • Superior, demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with standard computer-based office software; ability and commitment to learn specialized software tools used by the AMS.
  • Ability to draft reports with minimal need for editing.
